Just counts or spatial averages of a quantity over a finite number of subregions of a larger spatial region. e.g.

• Areal pixel values from a remote sensing of natural resources
• Presence/abscence of plant species in square quadtrats
• Gridded weather data products
• Number of deaths in counties. In lattice problems spatial subregions are denoted as \[\{A_1, A_2, \dots, A_n\} \in A\] and can be either regular or irregular.
